If this place is 5 hours from home, and we spend 6 hours to get to Seattle all the time, then we better go there! So we did. Dan and I have been wanting to go to Iceland for several years now and when we brought it up during a friend hang-out our friends jumped on it. We booked it and three months later we were headed to the land of waterfalls, geysers, hot springs, lava fields, glaciers, and volcanoes – for only 3.5 days. It was so worth it.

Highlights and mentions:

The fog and black sand and lava fields made it feel like we had landed on the moon

Chilling in the Blue Lagoon for hours – the locker room facilities were the cleanest and most put together facilities I think I’ve ever experienced

Icelanders really use their public pools – we made sure to catch the last hour that the pool was open from 9 – 10 on a Sunday night and all 4 hot-tubs were packed, including the outdoor pool (and it was 35 degrees out)

Drinking fresh freezing glacier water in cramp-ons

Having a bowl of bottomless lobster soup after an incredible day road-tripping past waterfalls and glacier-walking

Trying whale and puffin

Running behind waterfalls

Being with great people

The list goes on.

With a stellar and seriously dedicated team, I recently launched http://walkabout.andover.edu for Genuine Interactive. It’s something the web has never seen before. While I played the interactive producer role, managing the project cycle and client relationship (including dreamscripting and conducting all of the video interviews), the rest of the team stepped up to the plate to produce an incredibly high-quality masterpiece that included beautifully simple design, rich documentary-style video storytelling, and a creative platform (all javascript) for video/photography/quotation content that will blow your mind. I got to help shoot for the photo gallery pop-ups in order to help supplement the client’s content with new and fresh stuff (I only shot 25% of the photos featured in the Walkabout photo galleries). These were my favorites from the many days with my camera on campus. Some of them you’ll spot in the experience, others make their debut here.

One of my favorite weekends ever – just exactly what you want out of a winter New England Saturday & Sunday with great friends. Snow storm on the drive down, some arcade action, lobster pot pie, a little bit of nerf war action, sana time, cards, coffee, trip to the arctic landscape of Newport’s famous Cliff Walk.. the list goes on.

That time of year again, and as always, dave and holly checked in for their holiday portrait session. Over and over they seem like the only friends who consistently take advantage of the fact that I LOVE taking photos – and especially OF people I love. I wish more friends let me shoot for them. Jay and Tessa’s Wedding in McCall, Idaho

Three of us cousins got married within two months this summer. Whew! What a summer! Jay and Tessa played extremely helpful roles during our wedding this past July, so when they called about photography during their weekend it felt like a good old fashioned family trade. Up until my sister’s wedding (6 days before my own! July 4th this year) I hadn’t attended weddings as a ‘regular’ guest. I was so looking forward to watching them get married – and I said as much. They hired another photographer for the ceremony, group shots and reception, and I got to enjoy their vows holding my new husband’s hand. What an incredible weekend.

I spent all summer looking forward to shooting their portrait session. Such a perfect-for-each-other couple. Giggly and goofy and visibly delighted and in love with each other. Their wedding weekend was set in McCall, Idaho, a beautiful spot up toward the mountains north of Boise. An open-field ceremony and a barn reception. The details and schedule were out of this world. Pick-up soccer to lakeside picnic, huge family-style game party to variety show + dessert. And that’s not even the wedding day yet. One of my favorite details – each guest was handed a wooden wand with colorful ribbons flowing from the end. Playful and cheerful and just sort of prop that leads to extra special colors waving through photographs. Here’s to Jay and Tessa Frost!

sundays near a swamp in revere, mass

Last year I played in an indoor ultimate frisbee league every Sunday at 4pm in Revere, MA. The fields, in a cold big warehouse, were depressingly located near this desolate, trashed swamp. I started bringing my camera every Sunday. I loved the idea of tracking the changing light of a series of 4pm Sundays over the course of a month or so. And of course, swampy trashy actually is beautiful. Every Sunday as I would jump out of the car before rushing to the field I would turn to my housemate Marie and yell, “study in swamp!”

Found these looking through my Spring 2010 folders. The first is a shot on walk through the Arboretum in Jamaica Plains, Boston. Had never been through there before and it’s really something. JP is very lucky. The second shot was my submission for nytimes’ Moment in Time. New York Times asked everyone in the world to take a photograph at the exact same moment – May 2nd, 15:00 U.T.C. They took the thousands of submissions (no one was cut from the stack) and built an interactive web feature. At 15:00 on that particular day I shot my boyfriend shooting his moment.
